Town prepares for new playground construction

The town is preparing for construction of a playground next month replacing the existing Funway Park playground on Livingston Street. Most of the playground will be erected during a “community build” weekend, July 26-28, according to Town Manager Richard Montuori. In the weeks prior to that event, workers will remove the existing play structures, prepare the site, and begin installing some of the smaller pieces. Final work will take place in the days after the build, including construction of a walkway, a fence, and a handicap-accessible entrance ramp. The playground is set to open Aug. 2. The project is being funded with $200,000 from the town’s Community Preservation Act revenues, appropriated at the 2013 annual Town Meeting. Residents are invited to join in the community build, which will be overseen by the company supplying the equipment, O’Brien & Sons of Medfield.
