State senate honors veterans’ advocate

Terry Hart, former director for the Eastern Essex District Department of Veterans Services, was honored last month when Senator Bruce Tarr adjourned the state Senate in his memory. The Georgetown resident, who died in May 2014 at age 65, served in the Coast Guard for 27 years, receiving several commendations, and spent 15 years working for veterans in the district, which covers Essex, Georgetown, Hamilton, Ipswich, Newbury, Rowley, Wenham, and West Newbury. The adjournment order was presented to new district director Karen Tyler, Georgetown selectman (and American Legion member) Douglas Dawes, and district assistant Georgia Gadboro. A statement from Tarr’s office read, “Captain Hart was remembered by his fellow colleagues as a man who put an immense effort into outreach for veterans and their widows, making sure that they knew all the resources available to them.”
