The Reading Board of Selectmen is seeking input from residents on a potential tax increase. The board is considering placing a Proposition 2½ override on the town election ballot in April 2018. Selectmen recently initiated a survey to hear from voters on whether they would support an override, which permanently raises a community’s property taxes to fund operating expenses. Other questions address residents’ priorities for town and school funding. A link to the survey can be found at readingma.gov. Paper copies are available at the public library, the Pleasant Street Center, and Town Hall. Last October, selectmen proposed an override that was defeated in a vote by 59 percent to 41 percent.John Laidler can be reached at email@example.com.
