New details on Salem’s Derby Street project

Salem is inviting community members to hear the latest details on the city’s ongoing improvements to the streets and sidewalks in the Derby Street neighborhood. City officials and Salem’s consulting engineer, VHB, will offer a presentation on plans for the next steps in the multiphase project at a public meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in St. Joseph’s Hall, 160 Derby St. Derby Neighborhood Envision 2020 is a coordinated plan for using $2 million provided to the city as mitigation for the Footprint power plant project currently under construction and the now completed National Grid cable replacement project. A task force of city officials and representatives of Footprint, the National Park Service’s Salem Maritime Historic District, the House of the Seven Gables, the Historic Derby Street Neighborhood Association, and the Salem Chamber of Commerce has been working with VHB to oversee the improvements.
