Wenham officers honored as first responders

The Wenham Board of Selectmen recently recognized five Wenham police officers for their efforts as first responders. Sergeant Jonathan Gray, Detective Shane Kavanagh, Officer William Carney, Reserve Officer Lawrence Nestor, and Reserve Officer Mia Cefalo were recognized for their response to a call about a naked man wandering on Route 1 in Topsfield last October. Topsfield Police Officer David Castellarin had conducted a search of the area but was unable to locate the man, who has diabetes, and requested the assistance of Wenham and Danvers police. The Wenham officers responded along with Danvers K-9 Officer Justin Ellenton and K-9 Stryker. After a search, officers found the man, who was unresponsive and dressed only in a T-shirt in 35-degree weather.
