Breast cancer patient Priscilla Westaway, 50, of Methuen, was looking for a way to use her new-found interest in photography to raise funds for other cancer patients and their families.
Her good intention has quickly become a multifaceted project, “Photo for a Cause,” that culminates with a fund-raiser Oct. 20 and 21 at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, where Westaway took photography courses.
Other Northern Essex students, faculty, staff, and some seasoned photographers donated photographs to Westaway’s project. In recent months, the prints have been displayed at locations throughout the Merrimack Valley, including town and city halls, libraries, cafes, and Lahey Clinic in Peabody, where Westaway is treated. The photographs up for sale may be viewed at photoforacause.org.
In addition to the exhibit and sale, next month’s fund-raising event will feature a silent auction of five select photographs taken by professional photographers from around the world and raffle prizes from major sponsors such as Southwest Airlines, Hannaford Bros., and the Professional Stylist Forum. All proceeds will benefit cancer patients and their families.Brenda J. Buote can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
