COASTSWEEP, the Massachusetts statewide beach cleanup, begins Saturday, Sept. 16, with several volunteer groups at Salisbury Beach Reservation, eight Gloucester beaches (including Good Harbor and Wingaersheek), and Red Rock Park in Lynn.

Others are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 17, at Gloucester’s Stage Fort Park; on Plum Island on Saturday, Sept. 23; and at Canoe Beach and East Point in Nahant on Oct. 14.

Since 1987, thousands of volunteers have removed hundreds of tons of debris and trash from Massachusetts beaches, lakes, river, and streams, according to a statement from the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs. Those wishing to join or organize a cleanup can go to the COASTSWEEP link at mass.gov/eea or call 617-626-1200.
