Amesbury will receive $84,000 to fund a citywide conversion of LED streetlights.
The city received one of the largest grants as the state announced more than $4.3 million for 40 cities and towns to convert traditional streetlights to the more energy efficient LED technology. Funding comes from the Department of Energy Resources, which launched an $11.4 million program in December 2016, in partnership with energy companies and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.
“Continuing to invest in LED streetlight conversions will lead to more reduced energy costs and better road safety for motorists and pedestrians across Massachusetts,” said Governor Charlie Baker in a statement. “The strong partnership between the Commonwealth and our regional planning authorities and municipal light plants helps maximize the positive benefits of this grant funding.”David Rattigan can be reached at email@example.com.
