Lawrence-based Family Services of the Merrimack Valley has been awarded a $1 million grant to lead student mentoring programs in Lawrence, Holyoke, and Springfield. The federal office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, under the US Department of Justice, awarded the grant, which will be used to implement the Massachusetts Success Mentors Collaborative. The program, which will be executed over two years, will specifically target young people in each of these communities who are at risk for dropping out of school. It will match students with adults who will provide guidance, motivation, and accountability for attending school and staying on track with academic demands. The collaborative is a partnership among three youth mentoring programs: Family Services of Merrimack Valley, the Holyoke Boys & Girls Clubs, and Springfield School Volunteers.Brenda J.
