Essex to change emergency notification systems

Essex will use a new public notification system beginning Dec. 1, and is asking residents to sign up for the new system through the town website. As a member of the Essex Regional Emergency Communications Center, in Middleton, the town will use a system called SwiftReach to provide emergency and general information to residents, which will be available free as part of the center’s services. Currently, the town uses the CodeRED system, and pays a fee. There will be no messages through CodeRED after Dec. 1.
