Malden is offering residents the chance to join in a community celebration kicking off the holiday season.
On Saturday, Nov. 25, the city is holding its annual Parade of Holiday Traditions at 2 p.m., followed by its annual Christmas tree lighting event. The parade will begin at the Salemwood School on Waite Street Extension, turning left onto Maplewood Street and west on Salem Street before concluding at the Malden Teen Enrichment Center, where residents are invited to stop in for hot chocolate and children will be able to meet with Santa Claus.
Following the parade, the tree lighting ceremony will be held on the lawn of the public library. There will be an additional tree lighting at Fellsmere Pond on Savin Street at 6 p.m.
Each of the city’s schools will contribute a float or demonstration to the parade following this year’s theme, “Malden Schools: The Future Begins Here!” A cash prize of $350 will be awarded to the art department of the winning school float or presentation.
