Report highlights how to protect Great Marsh

The Great Marsh Coastal Adaptation Plan, a report by the National Wildlife Federation in partnership with the Ipswich River Watershed Association, was published earlier this month.

The report, which was reviewed last month at the Great Marsh Symposium, includes Wayne Castonguay, the association’s executive director. and environmental planner Kristen Grubbs among five authors. It focuses on six coastal communities of the Great Marsh: Essex, Ipswich, Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley, and Salisbury, and assesses both regional and town-specific vulnerabilities to potential coastal threats.

The report also identifies short- and long-term ecosystem-oriented strategies to reduce risks and build the marsh’s natural resiliency.
