Tewksbury readies for April election

Tewksbury is gearing for the start of its 2018 annual town election season.

Town Clerk Denise Graffeo is advising residents that starting Tuesday, Jan. 2, nomination papers will be available in her town hall office for those interested in running in the April 7 election.

Ten seats will be on the ballot this year. They include two seats on each of the Board of Selectmen, the School Committee, the Board of Library Trustees, and the Board of Health; one seat on the Planning Board, and a Tewksbury seat on the Shawsheen Valley Regional Technical High School Committee. All are for three-year terms except the Planning Board seat, which is for five years.

At least one of the seats will be open: Selectman David H. Gay, who has served on the board since 2007, said he has decided not to seek another term.

Fifty certified signatures are required for any candidate to earn a spot on the ballot. The last day to take out and return nomination papers is Feb. 20.
