The news for Page Elementary School families in West Newbury keeps getting worse. While assessing water damage caused when a pipe burst on Jan. 2, mold was discovered, and now inspectors have found what may be asbestos, according to a statement released by the West Newbury Board of Selectmen. Since the beginning of the year, most students have been relocated to other schools in the Pentucket Regional School District in Groveland and Merrimac. Staff and students were expected to return to the Page by Feb. 26. That date is now in doubt, as selectmen have ordered the school closed to all activities as a precautionary measure while the questionable material is being tested. Families have been encouraged to visit wnewbury.org for updates on the testing results and potential reopening plans.Linda Greenstein can be reached at email@example.com.
