Removal of historic roof shows limits of preservation law

Slate tossed to pave way for solar panels

A few weeks ago, Jane Gaughan watch in horror as the slate roof was torn off the former storehouse of the Walter Baker Chocolate in Milton. To her chagrin, she has since found out that there’s little the town can do to prevent changes to old buildings, even if they’re on the National Register of Historic Places, like this one is. Gaughan will make one more effort at this Thursday’s selectman’s meeting.
