Budget of $56.7m proposed

Town Manager Richard MacDonald is proposing a town budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1 of $56.7 million, $1.76 million more than the current year’s budget, a 3.2 percent increase. “For the fifth consecutive year we have developed and built an operating budget supported entirely by renewable revenue,” such as local taxes, state aid, and user fees, MacDonald told selectmen in a recent budget message. The town relies on renewable revenues for ongoing expenses, and one-time revenues for expenditures such as capital improvements, MacDonald said. Eighty percent of the town’s revenue comes from local taxes. - Robert Knox
