SCITUATE

Works by photojournalist Hansel Mieth a window to Scituate's past

Scituate Public Library will host researcher Mary Porter for a discussion of the works by photojournalist Hansel Mieth. Known for her 1937 visit to Scituate for Life Magazine, many of Mieth’s works are in the possession of the Scituate Historical Society. It wasn’t until 2009 that Porter, then an intern with the Historical Society, discovered the archived Mieth photographs. The discovery soon turned into a yearlong project to learn about the photographer, identify the stories behind the lens, and ultimately present the information to the public. Porter will visit the library on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. to discuss her findings and the photographer’s work. For more information, visit www.scituatehistoricalsociety.org. - Jessica Bartlett
