Toll booth fund-raisers

The local Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Whitman Baseball/Softball Association, and Wildcats Little League Baseball will all be allowed to hold toll booth fund-raisers during 2012. Selectmen set a policy last fall that limited the number of these events to four per year. Groups, which had to apply by Dec. 15, were selected by lottery. Last fall’s policy change on toll booth fund-raisers was set after a year-long ban on such activities, due to safety concerns. Town Administrator Frank Lynam said five organizations applied for toll booths in 2012. The Whitman Panthers was not selected during the lottery. “Assuming everything goes well this year, they will get first shot next year,’’ Lynam said. - Christine Legere
