Village Shoppes scraps rink

A plan to put a temporary skating rink outside the Village Shoppes to improve the ambience and draw shoppers for February school vacation week was scrapped after proponents found it would take too long to set up. “I’m not sure how ice skating in April would work,” said attorney Paul A. Schneiders, who brought the proposal before town officials for the owners of the mall, the Wilder Co. Schneiders said the rink would have been an artificial surface that users would have been able to skate on with regular ice skates. The rink would have been in the parking lot near Bertucci’s. - Elaine Cushman Carroll
