Full-day kindergarten

Registration is under way for the new full-day kindergarten program, which begins in September. Space became available in the Jefferson Elementary School due to construction of the new Rogers Middle School. The annual fee is $3,000, or $2,000 for students eligible for the free and reduced-price lunch program. The long-term goal of the School Department is to offer free full-day kindergarten for all. Each class will have 18-23 students with a teacher and aide. Specialist subjects include art, music, and physical education. Instructional materials and other start-up expenses are being covered by the Rockland Education Foundation. Registration is at the administration offices in the Lincoln School, 99 Church St., through Friday. Registration packets are available at www.rocklandschools.org. - Steve Hatch
