Facing big bills, Duxbury Town Meeting cuts CPA tax

With their eyes on upcoming tax increases for major building projects, Duxbury’s Town Meeting representatives have agreed to give taxpayers a break by voting to reduce the Community Preservation Act surtax from 3 to 1 percent. Supporters said it was time to reduce discretionary spending as town priorities take a bigger bite from taxpayers. But backers of the CPA say the cut will gut a program that improves residents’ quality of life and saves money in the long run.
