Late minister’s antiques auctioned

The vast antiques collection of the late Rev. Peter Gomes will be auctioned this weekend, beginning at noon Saturday, in Grogan & Co. gallery in Dedham. Gomes, who was pleased to call himself a son of Plymouth, died last year at age 68. Gomes was an author and preacher whose style set him apart from contemporaries. He was the first black minister of Memorial Church in Harvard Yard, and was the first pastor of that church to participate in a presidential inauguration. Up for auction will be items he collected throughout his life and used to adorn his homes in Cambridge and his native Plymouth. To view auction items, log onto groganco.com. Bids may be made in person on Saturday and Sunday or on the website. - Christine Legere
