Historic print at art center

The Massachusetts Audubon Visual Art Center has acquired Mark Catesby’s hand-colored etching of a whooping crane from his 1731 book, ”Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands ” - one of the earliest published images of an American bird. A contribution from Julianne Mehegan in memory of her mother, Eloise Faison, allowed the Catesby print to become the center’s first purchase under a new art acquisition and restoration fund, which will be used for strategic acquisitions and artwork conservation. Donations are welcome. - Meg Murphy
