Candidates night

Town moderator James E. Benson will host a candidates night on April 9 featuring residents running for offices in the April 14 annual town election. The event, open to all, will be held at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. There are two contested races on the ballot this year - for a seat on the Board of Selectmen and a seat on the Board of Assessors - but all candidates have been invited to speak. Also on April 9, the Council on Aging is hosting its annual candidates luncheon, at 11 a.m. at the senior center. Candidates will be present to meet and greet voters and answer any questions. In the selectmen’s race, incumbent Jerry D. Lawrence is vying with Housing Authority member Richard J. Freitas and Finance Committee member Maura Kathleen Moroni. In the assessors’ race, incumbent Cheryl Smith is being challenged by Stephen Currier. Absentee ballots are available in the office of Town Clerk Nancy L. Morrison. For more information, call the office at 508-894-1200. - John Laidler
