Camp’s pavilion to get face lift

The town is preparing to undertake renovations to the outdoor pavilion at Camp Kiwanee. The pavilion’s floor will be repaired and refinished and portions of the wall replaced, according to Jim Flanagan, the Camp Kiwanee caretaker. The work is expected to start soon and will be carried out by contractor Scott Ripley and volunteers from the Friends of Camp Kiwanee. The Friends will be funding the estimated $2,500 cost through private donations. Camp Kiwanee is a 64-acre town property off Route 58. It includes a function hall, Needles Lodge; a campground with 40 rustic cabins and 10 tent sites; Cranberry Cove, a public beach on Maquan Pond; and the pavilion. The campground will open for the season on Memorial Day weekend, while Cranberry Cove will open June 14. - John Laidler
