Bridgewater appoints interim town manager

Rhode Island resident Richard Kerbel will temporarily take over in Bridgewater next week, when current town manager Troy Clarkson steps down to become Hanover’s new top official. Of the 18 candidates who applied for the job in Bridgewater, three finalists had been selected: James Purcell, who retired two years ago from the town manager’s job in Norton; Bonnie Therrien, a town manager in Connecticut; and Kerbel, a government management consultant who has provided interim services to several other communities. Purcell withdrew from the running, due to another commitment, before final selection was made. Kerbel won the job by a single vote. Five town councilors backed his appointment, while four preferred Therrien.
