Innovation grant for schools

The Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District has received a state Community Innovation Challenge grant of $173,900 to develop programs that reduce special education costs, according to Superintendent John McCarthy. The funds will support the regional district’s push to support elementary school children who need assistance with leaning within the regular system, intervening early on rather than channeling students into special education later. The state grant program supports innovative efforts to cut costs by regionalizing services. - Meg Murphy
