Duxbury celebrates Rachel Carson’s ‘Silent Spring’

Rachel Carson’s “Silent Spring” is the book that gave birth to American environmentalism 50 years ago. It’s a book environmental pioneer Carson wrote because of a letter from Duxbury resident Olga Owens Huckins. A celebration of the important connection between Huckins and Carson will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday on the site of Huckins’ small, private “bird sanctuary” off Powder Point Avenue on the Duxbury shoreline.
