Historic silent movie screening

Movie fans can view vintage artifacts and screen “The Movie Queen” — a short film set in Cohasset in the 1930s and featuring local residents — at the Cohasset Historical Society’s Pratt Building at 106 South Main St. The movie was part of a series of films made in that era by photographer Margaret Cram Showalter and starred locals Bettina Gray Bancroft and Hugh Bancroft Jr., according to historical society executive director Lynne DeGiacomo. The silent movie’s plot involves a Cohasset girl who goes to Hollywood and becomes famous, comes home to great fanfare, gets kidnapped, and is rescued by a handsome hero, DeGiacomo said. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., she said.
