New regime in trash

Westwood begins automated trash collection and single-stream recycling this fall. The program aims to reduce solid-waste collection costs, increase recycling rates, and keep the town cleaner. Every resident will receive a 64-gallon wheeled cart for trash and a 96-gallon wheeled cart for all recyclables. The carts will be delivered by Waste Management a few weeks before the program launches. Collection schedules remain the same and residents are asked to have the containers curbside by 7 a.m. Trash will be picked up weekly and recycling, bi-weekly. Overflow bags will be available for $3 each at area stores. For more information, call the Department of Public Works at 781-251-2587.
