The consultant working on ways to improve Avon’s downtown presented his preliminary plan to the Board of Selectmen and Planning Board this month and said he’ll be finished by the end of June, according to Town Administrator Michael McCue. Shaun Burke, who is the director of Mansfield’s Planning Department, made several design suggestions aimed at making the downtown safer for pedestrians, McCue said. Proposals included reducing the number of traffic lanes, striping on-street parking spots, and planting trees, he said. Avon received a grant from the state for the planning help.
