Following the completion of a public hearing, town planners have approved a plan by Southern Sky Renewable Energy and Ravenbrook LLC to build a commercial solar energy installation on the site of the former Ravenbrook landfill off Route 44. Town Meeting voters this year agreed to a tax break that both town and company officials said was necessary to make the project financially viable. The company agreed to pay the town $350,000 in back taxes owed on the Ravenbrook property and to pay property taxes of approximately $100,000 a year over the course of the 20-year agreement. Company officials have said they want to start building the solar project in September.
