About 325 Pembroke children took part in a community water balloon fight on the last day of school June 15. The event, billed as the town’s largest-ever water balloon fight, was held as part of the year-long celebration of Pembroke’s 300th anniversary. Participants tossed approximately 6,000 water balloons in about 15 minutes, according to Kyle Harney, a spokesman for the 300th Anniversary Committee. “It was a splashing success,” Harney quipped. Photographs from the event, organized by a subcommittee headed by Kathleen Keegan, can be viewed on the committee’s Facebook page. Upcoming events in the anniversary celebration include a scavenger hunt July 22 and a North River cruise/trolley tour of Pembroke July 29.
