The town may never know why a 12-inch water main under East Street broke earlier this month, according to Rick Mattson, Sewer and Water superintendent . The 30-year-old pipe split up its side for about 12 feet in a “catastrophic failure,” he said. “It’s not that old by pipe standards. We still don’t know the cause of the break, and we may never know.” He said residents in the area were without water for about seven hours June 11 while workers made repairs. He said Rose Court Way, a nearby private road, sustained extensive damage.
