Godfrey given new title

Effective July 1, the title of the Holbrook Board of Selectmen’s secretary, Marjorie Godfrey, will change to assistant town administrator. The town previously had no assistant administrator. The change makes Godfrey a contract employee and coincides with a pay increase from $40,192 to $49,000, according to Town Administrator William Phelan. The budget for the selectmen’s office remains low compared with towns of similar size, he said. According to Phelan, Godfrey had not had a raise in five years, and the change more accurately reflects her responsibilities. The Board of Selectmen allows Phelan, who is a lawyer and former Quincy mayor, to spend some of his daytime hours in private practice, leaving Godfrey in the office.
