The Board of Selectmen has asked the Griffin’s Dairy Reuse Committee to consider allotting a portion of the 64-acre town-owned property for use as a fenced-in dog park. The move comes after Selectman Ken Coyle received complaints from residents about dog walkers in Island Grove Park who are not picking up after their pets. Though signs at the park inform dog walkers that the area near the pond is off limits and that there are trails and wooded areas for the dogs, complaints about unleashed dogs soiling areas where children rest after swimming continue, according to Town Manager John D’Agostino. D’Agostino plans to have the town’s animal officer make intermittent visits to the park to keep the dogs off the beach. In addition, bylaws regarding dog walking and proper removal of waste may be reposted at the park.
