Stretching for seniors

Ten-week sessions of stretching and exercise classes for senior citizens begin July 10, with classes held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church Fellowship Hall on Front Street. The cost is $45 for 10 weeks of 30 classes, with the first class of each session free, to see if participants like it, said instructor Karen Corcoran. She designs a new program for each session, which stresses cardiovascular, strength training, flexibility, and balance work, she said. Corcoran said she has taught the classes in Marion for 21 years, adding that some members of her first class are still taking them, including a 94-year-old. Corcoran is a specialist in senior fitness, as certified by the International Sports Sciences Association. The fall round of classes starts Sept. 18. For information, call Corcoran at 508-295-1567.
