The Narrows Road Bridge has been reopened to traffic, following a $1.1 million renovation project funded primarily by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The project, which took about two years, was completed nearly two months ahead of schedule, a boon to residents inconvenienced by it. Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. allowed a $570,000 bypass road to be built through its property, which enabled the temporary closing of the bridge. The town requested FEMA funds for 28 projects due to flooding in March 2010. Two remaining bridge repair projects, on Forge Road and Gurney Road, are scheduled to be completed late this summer.
