Endangered copperheads make home in Blue Hills
Few are aware that at-risk copperhead snakes bask in the area
With summer now in full swing, you’re likely to occasionally encounter snakes during outdoor activities. Most people are familiar with the more common species, like garter snakes, but within view of the Boston skyline, surrounded by highways, office parks, and golf courses, lives one of the rarest snakes in Massachusetts, the northern copperhead. One of only two species of venomous snakes in New England, copperheads are listed by the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife as endangered.
