The 42d annual Fourth of July Road Race kicks off Wednesday at 9 a.m. from Water Street on the town’s waterfront. All proceeds from the race benefit graduating seniors from Old Rochester Regional High School. Entrance fees are $20 by Tuesday, and $25 the day of the race. The race began in 1971 with 15 runners, and has since evolved into one that attracts more than 800. For information and to register, visit www.mattapoisettroadrace.com. Taking place next Sunday is another local athletic event, the annual Mattapoisett Lions Club triathlon, which involves a quarter-mile swim, 10-mile bicycle race, and 3-mile run, and is open to individuals and teams. All proceeds benefit Lions Club charities. To register, visit www.baystateevents.com or download an application at www.mattapoisettlionsclub.org.
