Town leaders elected to spend about $30,000 for last week’s July 4 holiday festivities, including $18,000 for a fireworks display. In May, Janet Maguire was appointed as Canton’s full-time recreation director, but the post was vacant for several months before, which left the Recreation Department unable to adequately raise funds for events. It currently has about $3,000 in donations. However, Canton Recreation Associates, a nonprofit organization, is disbanding and donating nearly $15,000 to Canton for various recreational activities, such as the senior holiday party and the summer concert series.
