Panel to provide details on school building project

The proposed West Bridgewater Middle-Senior High School building project will be a focus of discussion at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on July 24. The School Building Committee will provide an update on the project. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and the school presentation will start at 7:30. Plans call for constructing a 141,250-square-foot facility behind the existing school, which would be demolished. On July 25, the Massachusetts School Building Authority is slated to vote on whether to provide partial reimbursement for the estimated $63.7 million project. Should MSBA approve the funding, Special Town Meeting will convene on Oct. 1 to consider authorizing the full project amount. The approval would be contingent on passage of a temporary tax increase, through a Proposition 2½ debt-exclusion override, in a special election set for Oct. 6. The School Building Committee has announced plans to hold a series of informational forums on the project, with the first to be held Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the high school, if the state agency approves the reimbursement.
