Canton Development Properties, a subsidiary of Illinois-based Napleton Co., will fund a $40,000 independent study evaluating the environmental, traffic, and financial impact on the town from the development of a 40-acre property, site of the former Plymouth Rubber plant on Revere Street. Town officials and residents have requested such a study before the project once again goes before Town Meeting for possible rezoning of the former factory site. In April 2011, town representatives on multiple boards rejected a rezoning proposal by the developer that would have allowed the construction of nearly 400 residential units; a similar zoning change proposed by Canton Development Properties in 2008 was rejected by voters.
