In the race for Plymouth and Barnstable District state Senate seat, Republican Thomas F. Keyes is hoping that an aggressive campaign and conservative message will help him upset Senate President Therese Murray. In modern Massachusetts history, a sitting Senate president or House speaker has never been defeated for reelection by the voters, but the district in one of the most Republican in the state, and Keyes lost to Murray by just 4 percentage points in 2010.
