    The Town Meeting that wasn't

Not enough voters turned out to get the scheduled Nov. 13 Special Town Meeting under way, despite the on-camera cajoling from Town Moderator Robert Saquet, who urged the folks at home to finish dessert and come to the meeting. It was to no avail, said Town Clerk Marianne Staples, and the 200-voter quorum could not be reached. After an hour of waiting, the selectmen, town manager, and town attorney announced business would be put off until the April 9 Annual and Special Town Meetings. The evening’s warrant included several “housekeeping” articles settling financial matters, the proposed establishment of a veterans’ real estate tax work-program, funding requests to replace the American flag on North Common, and the establishment of an Economic Development Corporation to encourage business. The warrant also included a citizens’ petition for a zoning amendment intended to clear the way for development of the former Lowney Chocolate Factory on Oakland Street.
