School Committee members have voted for interim principal Robert Shaw to stay on permanently in the role, voting on the appointment at their Nov. 7 meeting. Shaw, a graduate of North Quincy High School, became interim principal shortly before the school year began, after Earl Metzler took a job as a superintendent in another district. Shaw was an English teacher from 1999 to 2007 and the head of the English department from 2007 to 2009. He was assistant principal of North Quincy High until 2012. Though Shaw took a leave of absence to go back into teaching at the end of the 2011-2012 school year, he came back to the school to help after Metzler left. Shaw was the only applicant interviewed for the position, after three others being considered for the position backed out. “He brought the experience that he had going back to being a teacher and department head and assistant principal,’’ said Superintendent Richard DeCristofaro. “Being an assistant principal helped him have a foundation, and he continued that with learning who the staff was and [what] the needs of the community are.”
