More than 300 school districts nationwide have adopted a controversial safety protocol known as ALICE — alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate. Most US school districts use a passive lockdown procedure that involves hiding and remaining calm and quiet. On Thursday, Canton police Detective Chip Yeaton will appear before the local School Committee to answer questions about the protocol, recently adopted by Canton school officials, and say why it should be implemented elsewhere as well.
