Four mornings a week, instead of driving into Boston, an official from the Cape Verdean Consulate heads to Brockton to provide consular services for the region’s huge Cape Verdean population. Alberto Alves of the Cape Verdean Associaton of Brockton, which hosts the sessions, said the services range from providing passports to job recruitment. The services are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at the association, 575 North Montello St. For more information, call 508-559-0056. With nearly 9,000 Cape Verdeans, according to the 2000 Census, and estimates that the real figures are up to three times that, Brockton has so many Cape Verdeans that presidnetial candidates from that African nation campaign in the city.
