Town gears up for 125th anniversary

The town is getting ready for its 125th anniversary in 2013, making plans for an anniversary ball in February, Heritage Day in June, and parade in October. “We have something planned for almost every month, but the ball is the biggest thing,” said anniversary committee member Karen Johnson. Tickets for the ball, which will be held Feb. 23 at the Shaw’s Center in Brockton, cost $35 and are available at the Avon Public Library, Town Hall, and from committee members, she said. First settled in 1700 and originally known as East Stoughton, Avon broke away and was incorporated in 1888.
