Dispatch center hopes to expand

The regional emergency dispatch center in Holbrook plans to issue a request for proposals this week for a project manager to help guide the service as it looks to expand. The communications center, housed in the Holbrook public safety building, dispatches emergency and fire calls for Abington, Holbrook, Sharon, and Whitman, as well as police calls for Holbrook, answers all 911 calls for Holbrook and Whitman, and dispatches mutual aid for Fire District 4. Holbrook Fire Chief Edward O’Brien and Stephen Hooke, director of emergency communications, said the center has reached capacity in terms of its physical space, but not in terms of the number of communities it could serve efficiently. The consultant will be funded by a grant from the state 911 Department.
